Class Magic is a proven wellbeing and confidence-building programme for post-primary schools, designed especially for First Year students.

Using simple, engaging magic techniques, students develop confidence, self-esteem, communication and social skills in a safe, inclusive and enjoyable learning environment.

Class Magic has been successfully delivered in over 30 Irish post-primary schools and has been refreshed to meet the wellbeing needs of today’s students.

Class Magic is a structured educational programme that uses magic as a tool for learning, confidence building and personal development.

Through learning, practising and presenting magic tricks, students are encouraged to:

• Believe in themselves

• Communicate with confidence

• Work positively with others

• Experience success and enjoyment

Magic provides a powerful hook for engagement — students are motivated to practise, participate and share their skills, often without realising how much they are learning along the way.

No previous experience, performance ability or confidence is required.

The transition to secondary school can be challenging for many students. Class Magic supports this transition by focusing on practical, achievable success.

The programme helps students to:

• Build self-confidence and self-belief

• Develop communication and oral language skills

• Express creativity through storytelling (patter)

Students learn in a supportive, low-pressure environment where participation is encouraged and every success is celebrated.

DEIS & JCSP Focus

Supporting DEIS & JCSP Students

Class Magic is particularly effective in DEIS school settings and works very well with JCSP-supported students.

The programme:

• Encourages engagement for reluctant learners

• Builds confidence in small, supportive groups

• Supports literacy through storytelling and sequencing

• Creates positive, memorable learning experiences

Class Magic can be delivered in collaboration with JCSP Librarians, Wellbeing teams, SEN teams and First Year supports.

Programme Format

How the Programme Works

Class Magic is flexible and can be adapted to suit the needs of individual schools.

• Designed for First Year students (ages 11–13)

• Delivered as:

  • A short series of sessions (e.g. 4–6 classes), or

  • A standalone workshop

• Suitable for whole classes or small groups

• All materials provided

• Delivered by an experienced external facilitator

The programme is inclusive and accessible, supporting shy, anxious or less confident students.

About Leon

About the Facilitator

Leon is a professional magician, a qualified Special Needs Assistant (SNA) and a Programmes Facilitator with RehabCare.

He has extensive experience delivering Class Magic in post-primary schools across Ireland, with the programme successfully delivered in over 30 schools prior to and since its refresh.

Leon’s approach is:

• Student-centred

• Inclusive and supportive

• Grounded in real educational experience

His focus is on helping students feel confident, capable and proud of what they can achieve.
